Eoin Colfer (from very close to here) is one of the most popular authors at the moment. He's from and lives in Wexford and writes books for all ages. Literally. Ed's Bed for people learning to read, and going up along the 'age line' The Legend Of... stories, all entitled The Legend Of... and then another name, (the three books in the series: Spud Murphy, Captain Crow's Teeth and The Best Boy in the World) then there's Benny and Omar and more about Benny. Then there's the absolutely amazing, fantastic Half Moon Investigations. Eoin's most popular is the Artemis Fowl series, 3which there are a good few of (you can't say he whimped out, even though it's planned to be over soon.) Most recently, Airman is thought to be written is somewhat the same style as Artemis, although it has nothing to do with fairies or criminal masterminds... it's about flying.
Eoin at this moment in time is very busy at English tours, South African tours, and more, as you'll see in his video blog (on his official site. See the links.)
Artemis is coming to an end, but Eoin says he won't stop writing until
people stop reading or he runs ou of ideas - neither of which, he hopes,
will happen soon.
His favourite book as a boy was Stig of the Dump. His tips to budding authors are: Write lots, and when you're not writing, read. He has a big family, like Will in The Legend Of... books and he knows lots about Africa for Benny and Omar, as he wrote it as he was working over there.
He thinks that Hook in Wexford (home of the lighthouse and Loftus Hall) is the best place in the world.
