Kids Prefer Bedtime Stories Read by Dad
Posted 27 June 2009
A
new survey carried out by Silentnight says that children in England prefer their
fathers to their mothers when it comes to reading stories at bedtime. Children
apparently like their father's funny, eccentric take on stories rather than
their mother's strict habits. (Don't understand this post, to be honest.)
Mothers admitted to sticking to Narnia rather than Roald Dahl.
Kent is the biggest place for bedtime stories, London coming second.

BestBooks4ever Interviews Sarah Webb & Derek
Landy
Posted 26 June 2009
Sorry that we haven't been updating recently, but there hasn't
been much news to update on. So, we've made some.
First: As you know, when I went to a big book event in Dublin last September, I
met both Anthony Horowitz and Derek Landy.
I later did interviews with both of them. Anthony's went up a good while ago,
but I've added three questions to that that I forgot to put up.
His is on this page.
Next, I see that there was a problem with Derek's.
You can view it here.
And yesterday, I did a short interview with Sarah Webb, author of Amy
Green, Teen Agony Queen. It's here.
On unrelated notes of changes around the
website, New Moon's movie page is up now (view it here)
and one of you emailed and said that you liked the danger sign. It and a couple
others can be seen here.
Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter
Posted 25 June 2009
Johnny
Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are just a couple of the big names to star in the
new film version of Alice in Wonderland. Johnny Depp will be playing Mad Hatter,
or Hatta, from Lewis Carroll's books, Helena Bonham Carter will be playing
Helena Bonham Carter will be the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen,
Alan Rickman will be The Caterpillar - even Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat.
It's not the first time that there books have been turned into films, though -
Hatta alone has been portrayed on screen by
Edward Everett Horton, Sir Robert Helpmann, Martin Short, Peter Cook,
Anthony Newley, Ed Wynn and, in a music video, by Tom Petty.
Back to booKCast (BestBooksCast) Broken
Posted 19 June 2009 on: Site
I've re-written this whole thing. Basically... booKCast
wasn't working. It just wasn't. So we've changed services to Podcast Revolution,
and this weekend I'll put it back onto iTunes and Podcast Alley and soon you can
get it on your MP3 players and Creative Zen's soon.
But the big thing is that booKCast is now called BestBooksCast.
JK Rowling sued ?500m for Copying
JK Rowling has been sued 500 million pounds for
apparently copying off another book named Willy the Wizard by Adrian Jacobs.
This book wasn't very popular, and Jacobs died penniless in 1987, ten years
before Philosopher Stone came out.
Willy the Wizard also has a wizarding magic competition.
BestBooks4ever have a page about
this which you can view here.
New Film Section
We now have a film section here on BestBooks4ever
(there's no news recently, so we decided that we'd make some.)
We've got enough news to last for ages. We've got our new layout nearly finished
for the homepage and we're starting an 'Places in Books' section - more on that
soon...
Two Fun Stories for Twilight
There are two fun or interesting stories from
Twilight: first of all
Twitter
challenges:
Lots of you know Peter Facinelli, or
Carlisle Cullen in Twilight. On Twitter, he wants you to get him to 500,000
followers by June 19th or he?ll have to give the back part of his Twilight chair
to his friend Robert Defranco.
Follow him
right
here and spread the word!
After seeing Peter?s challenge, Gil Birmingham (Jacob?s dad) offered up
his own Twitter challenge today: get him to 100,000 followers by June 19th
and he?ll post a picture of himself in a speedo. Kind of random.
Also, Coldplay have said that they may be on the New
Moon soundtrack. Who knows?
BestBooks4ever: Half Blood Prince in 24 hours.
We
did this with Twilight the day that Breaking Dawn was coming our. And now that
we've got some basic facts about it, we decided that before 4:30pm tomorrow, we
will have your No. 1 place for anything to do with the Harry Potter and the half
Blood Prince film.
Unlike with our Twilight page, which you can view here,
you can watch our progress as we go along
at this link.
We'll be taking a break from, I'd say,
10pm toninght to 6 or 7am tomorrow morning, so don't bother watching then, but
keep going and we'll have lots.
Here it is.
UPDATE 1: WE NOW HAVE A HALF BLOOD PRINCE FACTFILE
UPDATE 2: OUR HBP RELEASE DATES AND PLOT ARE UP NOW.
UPDATE 3: WE HAVE VIDEOS NOW
UPDATE 4: WE HAVE A
LOW BANDWIDTH
VERSION OF THE PAGE HERE.
UPDATE 5: WE NOW HAVE PICTURES AND
WIDGETS.
UPDATE 6: DONE! VIEW IT HERE!

Here's two examples:

The Sorceress Availible!
One
of our favourite book series here on BestBooks4ever is The Secrets of the
Immortal Nicholas Flamel, and the latest book, The Sorceress, is out now!
Strange Lands newsletter says:
"Sophie and Josh Newman show every sign
of being the twins of prophecy, and Flamel has to protect them and the pages
they carry from the Dark Elders. If he hopes to defeat Dee, Nicholas must find
an Elder who can teach Josh and Sophie the third elemental magic?Water Magic.
The problem? The only one who can do that is Gilgamesh, and he is quite, quite
insane..."
The Sorceress is by the Irish author Michael Scott.
